Problems of teaching grammar
Problems of teaching grammar
the grammar of a natural language is its set of structural rules on speakers' or writer'
.It is very
important in teaching the English language, but in order to teach it well, many people fac many of the problems that it faces.
The difficulties and problems faced by students in learning the rules of English should not be ignored.
For examples
Their way of teaching grammar instruction can be dry and unengaging, leading to a lack of
motivation and interest from students.
They don’t use illustrations for teaching students which are objects , a picture, maps, realia, or pantomime, etc.
Another problem is the use of Deductive Learning way. A deductive approach is to learning and teaching grammar that focuses on learning the explicit rules of grammar, focusing on accuracy and form. This is a problem because the students can’t focus all the time
There are six essential rules to follow when it comes to teaching grammar effectively:
1- Keep it simple.
Use methods that facilitate the process of studying grammar, such as arranging information in tables or concept maps so that the rule is easy to understand and developing simple sentences that help understand the structure of the rule to be explained.
2-teach grammar , not linguistics.
The beginning and foundation must be teaching grammar, and if a person completely finishes understanding grammar accurately, he moves on to linguistics because it is deeper and more precise and cannot be understood and combined with grammar at the beginning of your studies.
3-Use plenty of relevant and clear examples.
Using examples is one of the most important ways to understand and facilitate information. It is important that any explanation is not devoid of examples because it is considered one of the most important ways of understanding.
4-Use inductive analysis.
Teaching by inductive learning means providing students with texts and examples first. The teacher's role is to provide language to help students find grammar, guide them in discovery and then provide further opportunities for practice.
5-Practice with much communication between the teacher and students.
It is important that there is good communication between the teacher and students so that what has been studied is practiced well. The teacher should make the students practice the information taken and assess their understanding.
6-To make the grammar more clear and easier for the students, use an object for each grammar to make them more understandable.
This is one of the successful methods in teaching grammar, but it is rarely used and only good professors use it in teaching grammar because it is accurate and takes time for students to understand.
In conclusion, the problems of teaching grammar or any other subjects are many, but every problem has a solution, and we must make our teaching the best possible as we can
